Master Attic did a phenomenal job with our attic insulation and duct replacement. We had a loss from smoke damage from a neighboring fire and we were met with compassion and excellent customer service from Danny Jones and Jorge Diaz. We chose them for their quality of work, expertise and fair pricing and they got the job done promptly. Thank you for the excellent work and we will be recommending you highly!

Removing Old Crawl Space Insulation in Toms River
Crawl space insulation rarely fails all at once. It slips loose from the joists, soaks up groundwater, or gets pulled apart and nested in by mice and other small animals, and once any of that happens the material does more harm than good, trapping moisture and odor against the framing instead of keeping the floor above warm. In Toms River, New Jersey, this shows up most in the ranch and Cape Cod crawl spaces built during the town's 1950s and 60s growth years, where the original insulation has had decades to break down.
Removal starts with an inspection to confirm what condition the material is actually in and whether rodents have been active, since contaminated insulation gets handled and disposed of differently than insulation that simply sagged from age or moisture. We clear it out under vacuum where the crawl space allows, working around plumbing, ductwork and low framing without disturbing anything that does not need to come out.
Once the joists and subfloor are exposed, contaminated sections get sanitized, and the crawl space is set up for its next step, be that new batts, a vapor barrier, or a combination of the two. Removal on its own solves the immediate problem, and what goes back in after is covered in the same free, written estimate.

Signs We Look For in Toms River Crawl Spaces
The four conditions that tell us a Toms River crawl space needs its insulation removed, not just topped up.
Original batts from the town's ranch-building years lose their grip on the framing over time, especially where groundwater has reached them, and material that has slipped or fallen leaves whole sections of a Toms River crawl space with no insulation at all.
Ocean County's water table sits close enough to the surface that a vented, dirt-floor crawl space in low Toms River sections takes on groundwater regularly, and insulation left sitting in that moisture starts breaking down within a few seasons.
Mice and other small animals treat old, loose insulation as ready-made nesting material, and once that happens the batts carry droppings and odor that do not clean out. Sanitizing follows removal whenever we find this in a Toms River crawl space.
A lot of what we remove in Toms River dates back to the town's original construction boom and was never meant to last this many decades in a vented, humid crawl space. Age alone is often reason enough to replace it.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
Crawlspace Insulation Removal in Toms River: Questions We Get
How do I know if my Toms River crawl space insulation needs to be removed?
Sagging or fallen batts, a musty smell, dark staining, or signs that mice or other small animals have nested in the material are the clearest signs. We confirm during a free inspection, since insulation that looks rough from above can sometimes be salvaged, and insulation that looks fine can be hiding moisture underneath.
How long does crawl space insulation removal take in Toms River?
Three things set the pace: how much material is coming out, how contaminated it is, and how tight the crawl space access is. A straightforward removal in an open crawl space moves quickly; one with heavy contamination or cramped framing takes longer. We'll confirm the actual timeframe once we've assessed the crawl space, and it's included on your written estimate.
Are there incentives for crawl space insulation removal in Toms River?
Insulation projects that start with pulling failed material out of a Toms River crawl space have, in some years, drawn support from New Jersey's Clean Energy Program, since JCP&L is the utility here. We'll flag whatever applies to your job when we're out for the estimate.
Is it safe to remove crawl space insulation myself?
We would not recommend it once rodents have clearly been active or the material is heavily waterlogged, since contaminated debris needs to be handled and disposed of properly, and a crawl space is a tight, low space to move around in without the right equipment. A free inspection tells you exactly what you are dealing with before anyone goes underneath.
How do you remove old crawl space insulation?
Vacuum equipment does most of the heavy lifting, pulling the material free without scattering dust and debris through the crawl space in the process. Everything gets bagged and hauled off according to local disposal rules, and if rodents have been active, the exposed framing gets sanitized before anything goes back down.
Does new insulation go back in right away after removal?
An empty crawl space with no insulation loses heat quickly, so new material typically goes back in soon after. Whether that means new batts, a vapor barrier, or both depends on what the inspection found, particularly whether groundwater played a role in why the old material failed in the first place.
What other parts of Ocean County do you handle crawl space removal jobs in?
Our Ocean County coverage extends to Jackson, Brick, Lakewood, Manchester, Berkeley Township and Seaside Heights. Insulation from the same 1960s construction boom is reaching the end of its useful life across most of that area, not only within Toms River but throughout this whole stretch of the county.
Will removing the old insulation leave my crawl space colder in the meantime?
For the short stretch between removal and new installation, somewhat, yes, since an open crawl space loses heat faster than one that is insulated. That is exactly why we schedule the two as one continuous job whenever the crawl space allows it, rather than leaving the framing exposed longer than necessary.
