How We Remove Old Crawl Space Insulation in Brick
Crawl space insulation fails for different reasons depending on where in Brick it sits. Near the lagoons, close to Baywood, Cherry Quay and Midstreams, tidal humidity works on batts until they sag off the joists and hold moisture against the framing underneath. Further inland, around Herbertsville and Laurelton, wildlife is usually the trigger: insulation flattened and soiled by nesting has to come out regardless of how sound the material was to begin with.
Removal starts with an assessment of what is actually down there and why it failed, since wet material and rodent-contaminated material get handled differently. Protective gear and the right equipment come out for the removal itself, and everything that comes down goes with it, cleared and disposed of properly. What's left behind is a bare, open crawl space, set up equally well for fresh insulation, a sealed vapor barrier, or both together.
What you get afterward is a written quote covering the full picture: what has to come out, what condition the framing is in underneath, and what we recommend putting back once the space is clear. A Brick crawl space near the water usually needs a different follow-up than one further inland, and the walk-through is what settles which.

What We Find During Crawl Space Insulation Removal in Brick
The four conditions behind most of the insulation removal jobs we do in Brick, NJ.
Insulation on the streets closest to the water, Baywood, Cherry Quay and Midstreams among them, gives out well ahead of anything further inland. Brackish air moves through a vented crawl space there almost year round, and it works on fiberglass faster than ordinary summer humidity does.
Squirrels, raccoons and mice nesting under the floor around Herbertsville and Lake Riviera leave insulation soiled and flattened, and none of it can stay. It gets bagged and disposed of properly rather than left in place.
Nor'easters that push water up along Barnegat Bay can leave a crawl space holding standing moisture for a stretch afterward, and insulation caught in that water rarely dries out enough to keep insulating the way it should.
Some of Brick's older crawl spaces, especially additions built onto the original structure, have a smaller opening than the main foundation, which slows down how quickly failed material can be pulled and disposed of safely.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
Crawlspace Insulation Removal in Brick: Questions We Get
How do I know if the insulation in my Brick crawl space needs to be removed?
Signs include insulation sagging or hanging loose from the joists, a musty smell coming up through the floor, visible staining or dampness, and any evidence of wildlife, droppings, nesting material or gnaw marks. Any one of those, especially in a crawl space near the lagoons, is worth an inspection before the problem spreads further.
How long does removing old insulation from a Brick crawl space take?
It depends on how much material has failed and how it is contaminated. A small section of sagging batts is a quick fix. Widespread rodent contamination or standing moisture drags the job out longer, since it has to be handled safely rather than rushed. Whatever your property specifically needs is confirmed in writing as part of the estimate.
Are there New Jersey incentives that apply once new insulation goes back in?
New insulation installed after a removal can sometimes draw on JCP&L or New Jersey Clean Energy Program funding, since Brick falls within JCP&L's service territory. What is currently available shifts often, so we look into the current offerings ourselves and walk you through anything applicable when we are there for the estimate.
Should I try removing crawl space insulation on my own?
It is not something we recommend. Contaminated or wet insulation can expose you to droppings and sharp debris, and a crawl space is a confined space to begin with. A professional removal handles the material safely and gets a proper look at what condition the framing underneath is really in.
How is old crawl space insulation actually removed?
We assess the condition first, then use protective equipment suited to whether the material is wet or contaminated by wildlife. It comes out by hand or with specialized equipment depending on the crawl space, and everything removed is bagged and disposed of properly rather than left in the yard.
What happens after the old insulation comes out?
It depends on why it failed. Crawl spaces near the water usually get a sealed vapor barrier before anything else goes back in, since new insulation would face the same tidal humidity that broke down the old material. Crawl spaces further inland more often just need fresh batts once the space is clear.
Which towns near Brick do you remove crawl space insulation in?
We handle removal jobs throughout Ocean County: Toms River, Lakewood and Wall Township on one side, Point Pleasant, Point Pleasant Beach and Mantoloking on the other. Both tidal humidity near the water and wildlife contamination further inland show up across the entire county, Brick included.
Does removal alone fix a musty smell coming from the crawl space?
Often it helps right away, since soaked or contaminated insulation is frequently the source of the smell. If the underlying moisture is still reaching the crawl space afterward, sealing with a vapor barrier is usually what finishes the job, which the inspection can tell you before removal even starts.
