Master Attic did a phenomenal job with our attic insulation and duct replacement. Removing Old Crawl Space Insulation in Lakewood
Crawl space insulation removal in Lakewood, New Jersey is what comes before anything new goes back into a crawl space that already has wet, sagging or rodent-damaged material in it. Insulation that has absorbed ground moisture loses its shape and pulls loose from the joists, and once that happens it stops doing the job it was installed for, whether it went in decades ago or more recently.
Close to downtown and around Lake Carasaljo, ground moisture is usually the culprit: batts installed without a vapor barrier underneath have been absorbing groundwater fed by the Metedeconk for years, and by the time we open the access door they are heavy, discolored and falling away from the joists. The township's newer duplexes and townhouses see a different cause more often, an animal getting in through an unsealed construction gap and nesting in insulation that was otherwise fine.
We pull the old material out with equipment built for a contaminated crawl space, bag and dispose of it properly, and check the joists and rim joist underneath for damage the insulation had been hiding. From there it is your call whether new batts go back in, whether the ground also gets a vapor barrier while the crew is already there, or both. There is no charge for the Lakewood estimate, and it lists in writing exactly what we found.
What Crawlspace Insulation Removal in Lakewood Includes
Six calls that tend to follow once the old material is out of a Lakewood crawl space.
What We're Pulling Out of Lakewood Crawl Spaces
Four reasons old insulation ends up coming out of a Lakewood crawl space.
Insulation installed without a vapor barrier underneath, in the crawl spaces closest to the Lake Carasaljo water table, has been soaking up groundwater for years, and by the time we open the access door it is heavy, discolored and pulling loose from the joists.
Newer duplexes and townhouses across the township sometimes have an animal working through an unsealed construction gap and nesting directly in otherwise sound insulation, which contaminates material that would have lasted years longer on its own.
Old, sagging insulation in a Lakewood crawl space often hides a rim joist that has been letting outside air bypass it for years, and we only find the extent of it once the failing material is out of the way.
Resort-era crawl spaces near downtown often show insulation in different states of failure at once, decades-old batts crumbling in one bay and a patch job from a more recent repair failing in another. Removing all of it at once is usually simpler than trying to sort out what might still be salvageable.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
Crawlspace Insulation Removal in Lakewood: Questions We Get
How do you know if a Lakewood crawl space needs insulation removed?
The clearest signs are insulation hanging down or fallen onto the ground, a musty smell working up through the subfloor, obvious discoloration on the material, and higher heating bills than the house should have. We confirm it with an inspection rather than guessing from the symptoms alone, since the fix is different depending on the cause.
What's a typical timeframe for crawlspace insulation removal in Lakewood?
The amount of failed material and how contaminated it turned out to be set the pace more than anything else. A section or two of wet batts comes out quickly; a crawl space where most of the insulation has broken down or been nested in takes longer to clear safely. That timeframe gets built into the estimate once we've walked the space ourselves.
Does NJ Clean Energy cover crawl space insulation removal in Lakewood?
Removal alone usually is not the covered line item, but JCP&L customers here have seen the state's Clean Energy Program fund the insulation that follows it, especially when the old material failed from moisture rather than simple age. We'll tell you what's active and how it applies to your job at your free estimate.
Why does insulation fail so often in Lakewood's older crawl spaces?
Vents built into the crawl spaces downtown and around Lake Carasaljo let humid air move through by design, since that was standard practice when those houses went up, and insulation installed decades ago without a vapor barrier underneath has been absorbing that moisture ever since. Once it is saturated, it stops insulating and starts holding onto water instead.
What determines which parts of a Lakewood crawl space actually need clearing?
We check every joist bay for moisture, sagging and discoloration, and look for any sign an animal has gotten into the material, because a single crawl space can have sound insulation in one bay and ruined insulation in the next. What comes out is based on what that inspection turns up, not the age of the house.
Does the insulation always need to be replaced right away?
That part is up to you. Some homeowners want the crawl space cleared and left open while they decide on new insulation or a vapor barrier separately. Most choose to have new material go back in during that same job, especially if the crawl space has been feeding cold air or moisture into the floor above it.
Which towns near Lakewood do you remove old crawl space insulation in?
Old crawl space insulation comes out all over this part of Ocean County, not only Lakewood: Toms River, Brick, Jackson, Manchester, and Howell once you cross into Monmouth County. The water table that ruins so much insulation near Lake Carasaljo runs through a good stretch of this area, so the same failure pattern shows up town after town.
What happens to a Lakewood crawl space's old insulation once it's pulled?
It gets bagged and hauled out under conditions built for contaminated material, then disposed of properly rather than left on site. We also check the joists and rim joist underneath for damage the old insulation had been covering, since that is often the first time anyone has seen that part of the crawl space in years.
