Rodent Proofing Lakewood Attics & Crawl Spaces
Rodent proofing in Lakewood, New Jersey means locating every gap a squirrel, raccoon, mouse or other animal could get through on the way into an attic or crawl space, then closing each one for good. The work looks different block to block: near the downtown core and Lake Carasaljo, where houses went up during the town's early years as a resort destination, the openings are usually shrunken wood soffits and fascia boards that have pulled away from the roofline over the decades. In the township's newer duplexes and townhouses, the ones built more recently, the gaps are smaller and newer, left behind at plumbing and wiring penetrations sealed once during construction and never checked again.
We start every job by walking the full roofline, the foundation and any crawl space vents or doors, checking each seam against what is actually getting in rather than assuming the fix is the same for every house. Gaps get closed with material the animals already living in Lakewood attics and crawl spaces cannot chew or claw through, and any vent or door that has to stay functional gets a rodent-resistant screen instead of a permanent seal. Where something is already living inside, it gets removed humanely before the opening it used is closed behind it.
Once the entry points are sealed, we look at what the animals left behind. Insulation that has been nested in, soiled or chewed through usually needs to come out and the space sanitized before it is safe to leave alone, and we will tell you plainly if that is the case for your attic or crawl space. Every estimate we write in Lakewood costs nothing up front, and it spells out in writing exactly what we found, what we recommend closing first, and why, so the decision about how far to go is yours to make.

What We Find at Lakewood Entry Points
Four spots that keep coming up whenever we rodent-proof a house in Lakewood, NJ.
The wood soffit and fascia boards on Lakewood's oldest houses, the ones built downtown and around Lake Carasaljo back in the town's early resort years, warp and separate as the decades pass, opening a seam large enough for a squirrel or raccoon to climb straight onto the roof. We check these boards first on any Lakewood house from that era.
The newer duplexes and townhouses spread across the township meet current construction standards, but the penetrations cut for plumbing and wiring during that build are often sealed once and never inspected again. Mice find those gaps just as easily as squirrels find a shrunken soffit downtown.
The Metedeconk's south branch feeds into Lake Carasaljo, and crawl space vents built close to that water table pull in humid air and, with it, mice and other animals looking for a way under the house. A damp vent works two ways: moisture in, and wildlife right behind it.
Once the weather turns, wildlife that has been living outdoors in Lakewood all summer starts looking for a warmer place to spend the winter, and an attic with an unsealed roofline is an easy find. Cold months are when we see the most calls about scratching overhead.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
Rodent Proofing in Lakewood: Questions We Get
What does rodent proofing include in a Lakewood attic or crawl space?
It starts with a full walk of the roofline, soffits, foundation and any crawl space vents or doors to find every gap something could be using to get in. Each one gets closed with material the animals cannot chew or claw through, and anything already living inside gets removed humanely first. What gets sealed and in what order comes down to what the inspection finds on your specific house.
How long does rodent proofing take in Lakewood?
It depends on how many entry points the inspection finds and how much cleanup they left behind. A house with a couple of soffit gaps and no contaminated insulation moves quickly; a property with animals established in the attic and crawl space both takes longer. Once the walk-through tells us what we're dealing with, the timeline goes right into your written estimate.
Are there NJ incentives for insulation replaced during rodent proofing?
JCP&L serves Lakewood, and past rounds of New Jersey's Clean Energy incentives have covered insulation and sealing work tied to wildlife damage. Availability isn't fixed from one year to the next, so we'll flag anything current when we come out to look at your attic or crawl space.
Is rodent proofing different for a century-old Lakewood house than a new duplex?
Yes. Take an early-1900s house near downtown or Lake Carasaljo: it typically needs several soffit and fascia repairs strung along the roofline. A newer duplex or townhouse needs far less roofline work and more attention to the handful of construction penetrations that were never resealed after the plumbing and wiring went in.
How do you decide where to seal on a Lakewood roofline?
We look at the actual construction, not just the age of the house. Century-old soffits near downtown and Lake Carasaljo tend to fail at the fascia board itself, while a newer duplex or townhouse tends to have a sound roofline already, with just a handful of unsealed penetrations lower down instead. The walk-through decides which gaps matter on your house, not a standard list.
Is old insulation removed before an attic gets sealed in Lakewood?
Only if it needs to be. If nothing has nested in it and it is dry and intact, we can seal around it. Insulation comes out when wildlife has been living in it, when it is soiled or torn up, or when it is hiding the exact gap we need to reach and close. We will tell you which applies to your attic during the inspection.
Which towns near Lakewood does Master Attic rodent-proof?
We're out working attics and crawl spaces all over Ocean County, not just Lakewood: Toms River, Brick, Jackson and Manchester all get regular visits, and Howell right across in Monmouth County too. Century-old soffits and newer construction gaps look different from block to block, but the crew handling your inspection has usually seen both within the same week.
What animals get into Lakewood attics and crawl spaces most often?
Mice and squirrels account for most of the calls, with raccoons a close third wherever the entry point is large enough, and bats showing up at gable vents and ridge gaps on the older houses near downtown. Which one it is changes how urgently we schedule the inspection, since raccoons and bats both need a different approach than mice.
