Attic Services
Medford Lakes was built as a log-cabin resort starting in 1927, and while cedar walls carry some natural insulating value, the roofline above them does not. Many cabins frame their ceilings straight into the rafters instead of a flat attic floor, and where a true attic exists, it is usually still holding whatever went in decades ago. What counts as enough insulation in this corner of New Jersey is well beyond what these rooflines were ever given, and the inspection is what settles the real number for a specific attic.

Squirrels chew wiring and tear up insulation once they get into an attic. We remove them and close the entry points.
Squirrel Removal →A raccoon can wreck attic insulation and ductwork in weeks and leave dangerous droppings behind. Safe removal plus repair of the damage.
Raccoon Removal →Bats roost in quiet attic corners and their droppings contaminate everything below. Humane exclusion plus full cleanup.
Bat Removal →Mice squeeze in through gaps the width of a pencil, nest in the insulation and leave droppings across the attic floor. Removal, then sealing the gaps so they stay out.
Attic Mice Removal →Wildlife tears openings where the roof meets the walls, and every gap is an open door. We seal the entry points and repair the damage.
Rodent Proofing →Thin, patchy insulation lets heated and cooled air escape into the attic all year. Upgrading it cuts energy bills.
Attic Insulation →Moisture in the crawl space feeds mold and rots the framing under your floor. Encapsulation seals out the damp ground air.
Crawl Space Encapsulation →New batts fill every joist bay edge to edge, so heated and cooled air stays in the rooms below instead of bleeding into the attic. Lower bills, even temperatures.
Attic Insulation →A vented ridge lets hot, moist air escape at the peak while baffles keep the soffit intake open. Balanced airflow protects the roof deck and keeps the new insulation dry.
Attic Ventilation →The roofline gap the wildlife used is sealed with rodent-proof mesh and sealant, along with every other opening we found. Nothing gets back in.
Rodent Proofing →Droppings, nesting debris and the contaminated insulation are gone, and the framing is treated so odors and bacteria do not linger in the air you breathe.
Attic Cleanup →A sealed vapor barrier covers the ground and walls, so damp soil air can no longer feed mold or rot the floor framing above it.
Crawl Space Encapsulation →What is going wrong here
- Thin, patchy attic insulation lets heated and cooled air leak up into the attic, and the energy bill pays for every bit of it.
- Warm air pours out through the roofline gap and the ridge instead of staying where it belongs.
- Squirrels, raccoons, bats and mice have moved in; droppings and nesting cover the attic floor.
- Damp ground air rises through the crawl space and feeds mold under the floor.
What changed
- Full-depth insulation keeps conditioned air in the living space where it belongs.
- Warm attic air stays upstairs and vents out at the ridge the way it should.
- Every entry point is sealed and the attic is cleaned and sanitized; nothing lives up there but insulation.
- The crawl space is sealed and dry, so ground moisture stays in the ground.
Built Around Medford Lakes Attics & Crawl Spaces
Medford Lakes is a 1.2-square-mile borough built almost entirely between 1927 and the 1950s as a log-cabin resort colony that later converted, cabin by cabin, into a year-round community. That leaves one of the oldest, most uniform housing stocks in Burlington County, with attics and crawl spaces that still reflect the era they were built.
Cedar log walls insulate on their own, but the roofline above them rarely was, leaving many 1920s and 1930s cabins far short of what today's guidance calls for.
The Pinelands soil under Medford Lakes sits close to a natural water table, the same one that feeds its 22 lakes, so crawl spaces here fight groundwater year-round.
Medford Lakes sits inside the Pinelands forest, with tree canopy running to the roofline on most lake lots, giving squirrels and raccoons steady access to soffits and older trim gaps.
Burlington County winters swing above and below freezing for weeks, and warm air leaking into an under-insulated attic feeds ice buildup at the eaves of low-pitched cabin roofs.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much attic insulation do the log cabins in Medford Lakes actually need?
Current guidance for attics in this stretch of New Jersey asks for a lot more depth than these rooflines usually carry. Cedar log walls carry some insulating value on their own, but that does not extend to the roofline above them, and most of the original 1920s through 1950s cabins we open up here are running well under what's called for today. We measure the actual depth during the inspection before recommending anything.
Do the lake lots in Medford Lakes make crawl space moisture worse?
Often, yes. Medford Lakes was built on Pinelands sand with a naturally high water table, the same one that keeps its 22 lakes full, and a crawl space on a lakefront or near-lake lot pulls that dampness in year-round. A sealed vapor barrier across the ground and walls keeps that moisture out of your floor joists and insulation.
Are there any New Jersey incentives for insulating an older Medford Lakes cabin?
The New Jersey Clean Energy Program has offered rebates and financing help toward home energy upgrades, attic insulation included, and it is worth confirming the current offer before your project starts since programs get revised periodically. PSE&G, the utility serving this part of Burlington County, has also run its own efficiency incentives alongside the state program.
Will attic work change the look of one of Medford Lakes' original log cabins?
No. Attic insulation and air sealing happen entirely from inside the attic and roofline, not on the exterior logs, chinking or trim, so nothing visible from the trail out front changes. Cabin owners can bring the attic up to current standards without touching the log construction that makes the borough what it is.
What are the signs that squirrels or raccoons have gotten into a Medford Lakes attic?
Scratching or thumping around dawn and dusk, droppings along the joists, chewed wiring, and a stronger animal odor than usual. The Pinelands tree canopy grows close to most rooflines here, and older cabins with decades of chinking and trim gaps give wildlife more places to squeeze in than a newer, conventionally sided house.
How long does an attic or crawl space job take on one of the older Medford Lakes cabins?
A straightforward attic on a newer home in the borough tends to move quickly. The original log cabins, with tighter access hatches and roofs framed straight into the rafters, take longer, and pulling out decades of old insulation or cleaning up after wildlife stretches that further still. What applies to a specific cabin gets spelled out in the estimate first.
Does Master Attic serve the towns around Medford Lakes?
Yes. We work throughout Medford Township, which surrounds Medford Lakes on every side, plus Shamong, Tabernacle, Southampton and Evesham Township, all in Burlington County, and out toward Cherry Hill in Camden County. Attic insulation, crawl space encapsulation and rodent proofing are available anywhere in that coverage area, with free estimates.
My cabin started out as a summer cottage, does that affect an insulation project today?
It can. Many Medford Lakes cabins were built for seasonal use in the 1920s through 1940s and only later winterized for year-round living, so the attic and crawl space work that came with that conversion varies a lot from cabin to cabin. We inspect what is actually there today, whatever the original build date, and quote the work that specific attic or crawl space needs.
