Master Attic did a phenomenal job with our attic insulation and duct replacement. We had a loss from smoke damage from a neighboring fire and we were met with compassion and excellent customer service from Danny Jones and Jorge Diaz. We chose them for their quality of work, expertise and fair pricing and they got the job done promptly. Thank you for the excellent work and we will be recommending you highly!

Getting a Carteret Crawl Space or Basement Back to Clean
Open up the space under an older Carteret house and there's usually a history down there: insulation that gave out years ago, whatever a previous owner stored and forgot about, and the general buildup that comes from nobody checking a space on purpose. A good portion of the borough's oldest two-family properties picked up an extra crawl space later on, tucked under a rear extension behind a house that already had its own finished basement, and that bolted-on space is nearly always the more neglected half.
Hand tools and a vacuum do most of the work, depending on what the material calls for, pulling out anything that doesn't belong: insulation gone soft from sitting near the tidal water table, leftover construction scrap, a torn vapor barrier from a job done years back. Wherever rodents have been active, sanitizing follows once the space is fully cleared, so nothing contaminated stays behind under the floor above it.
A cleared-out crawl space or basement is the starting line, not the finish, since it's usually the step that has to happen before new insulation, a vapor barrier, or exclusion work can begin. What a given Carteret crawl space needs once it's clean depends entirely on what turns up while we're clearing it, and that's exactly what shapes the free, written estimate.

What a Carteret Crawl Space Usually Needs Cleared Out
Four conditions we run into again and again under Carteret's older two-family houses.
A crawl space under a Carteret two-family's rear addition tends to collect scrap material, abandoned ductwork and construction leftovers that nobody has bothered clearing since the house went up, occasionally dating clear back to the borough's earliest building years in the 1920s.
The Arthur Kill runs along one edge of Carteret and the Rahway River along another, which keeps groundwater rising into the borough's lower-lying crawl spaces after any real rain. Anything sitting down there at the time, insulation not excluded, comes out soaked and has to be replaced.
Droppings, nesting debris, and occasionally an animal that didn't make it back out are ordinary finds in a Carteret crawl space that has gone unchecked for a while, especially near the sill plates where rodents from the industrial waterfront first worked their way in.
The cleanup calls we take on in Carteret skew heavily toward crawl spaces rather than full basements, a direct result of how the borough's two-family and cape housing stock was originally built, so tight, low-clearance work is the default our crews come prepared for.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
Crawlspace & Basement Cleanup in Carteret: Questions We Get
What does a Carteret crawl space cleanup actually involve?
Debris comes out, along with any failed or waterlogged insulation and whatever a previous owner left behind. If there's evidence rodents were in there, sanitizing happens right after, once everything else is clear. Most of what we handle in Carteret is crawl space rather than basement work, so the process assumes tight, low-clearance access under a rear addition from the outset.
What kind of timeframe should I expect for a cleanup in Carteret?
It scales with how much has piled up and how much clearance a crew has to work with underneath whatever addition the crawl space sits below. Light debris and no standing water is a fast job; years of accumulation or waterlogged insulation stretches it out considerably. We put the actual number in front of you only after walking the space in person.
Is crawl space cleanup ever covered by an incentive program in Carteret?
Rarely on its own, since cleanup counts as prep work rather than an efficiency upgrade in most program guidelines. It's a different story once new insulation or encapsulation follows: PSE&G serves Carteret, and state-level clean energy incentives sometimes extend to that combined project, so it's worth asking during the estimate whether yours would qualify.
Do you handle basements as well, or is it crawl spaces only in Carteret?
Both. Crawl spaces just make up the larger share of what we see, given how many of Carteret's two-family houses ended up with one added later alongside an existing basement. A full basement gets the same approach when it needs it, debris and failed insulation cleared, sanitizing where rodents were active, and the space left ready for whatever's next.
How do you tell what stays and what has to come out?
Anything wet, contaminated or structurally in the way comes out, sagging insulation, a torn vapor barrier, construction debris, nesting material. Whatever's dry and undamaged usually gets left in place unless it's blocking access to something that actually needs attention, and that call gets made during the inspection, not guessed at beforehand.
Do I need a cleanup before starting new insulation or encapsulation?
Generally, yes. Neither new insulation nor a vapor barrier holds up properly against a surface that isn't clean and dry, so cleanup comes first whenever a crawl space has debris, failed material or moisture already sitting in it. For a lot of Carteret properties we can fold cleanup and the next step into one visit rather than two.
How far from Carteret does your cleanup crew still cover?
Comfortably across Middlesex County: the Woodbridge Township sections bordering Carteret, so Port Reading, Avenel and Sewaren, plus Linden over the Rahway River and Edison beyond that. The same tidal-adjacent, two-family housing stock that keeps Carteret's crawl spaces needing this work is common right across that stretch, not unique to the borough.
Is cleanup near Carteret's industrial corridor any different from a job elsewhere?
Not in the materials or the method, but a crawl space closer to the industrial waterfront tends to have accumulated more over the years, particularly under two-family rear additions that have sat unopened for a long stretch. We build extra time into the estimate for that kind of buildup rather than assuming every Carteret crawl space looks the same.
