Master Attic did a phenomenal job with our attic insulation and duct replacement. We had a loss from smoke damage from a neighboring fire and we were met with compassion and excellent customer service from Danny Jones and Jorge Diaz. We chose them for their quality of work, expertise and fair pricing and they got the job done promptly. Thank you for the excellent work and we will be recommending you highly!

How We Insulate an Attic in Carteret
Attic insulation work in Carteret starts with a look at what is already up there, whether it is one of the borough's two-family capes raised for workers at Carteret's waterfront industries or a place finished within the past few years. We measure the existing depth and condition, identify which top-plate and chase gaps are letting conditioned air escape into the attic, and put together a recommendation that gets that attic to the depth current guidance sets for a house in this part of New Jersey.
The sequence matters here: sealing the air leaks comes before adding insulation, since escaping air undermines insulation that has nothing to stop it. The top plates, the flue chase, wiring holes and the attic hatch get closed off first, baffle vents go in at the soffit so the new depth does not choke off the airflow the roof needs, and only then does blown-in or batt material go across the floor. Where the old insulation is wet, compressed or has had rodents nesting in it, it comes out first and the attic gets cleaned before anything new goes down.
The estimate is free and written, listing exactly what we found, what we recommend and why, with options when more than one approach makes sense for that particular attic. Access matters here too: Carteret's older two-family attics tend to be tight and low, which changes how the crew stages equipment and where it can safely work, something we confirm by actually climbing up into the space rather than estimating from a description given over the phone.

What We Find in Carteret Attics
Four patterns show up again and again once we get inside a Carteret attic.
Many of Carteret's two-family capes and duplexes still carry whatever insulation went in when the house was framed, decades before today's energy code existed, and it shows in how fast the upstairs rooms lose heat in winter and gain it back in summer.
Rodent pressure in Carteret comes up from the ground as much as it does down from the roof, driven by the marshy Rahway River frontage and the borough's industrial waterfront, so insulation work here often overlaps with sealing gaps most towns would only expect to find upstairs.
A crawl space that stays wet works moisture up through the house over time, and in Carteret's low-lying sections that dampness eventually shows up as musty insulation even in an attic that has no leak of its own.
Carteret still gets enough hard freezes each winter that an attic leaking heat becomes a roof problem: the upper slope warms just enough to soften snow, that water runs down to the unheated eave and refreezes there, and ice dams build along the edges of the borough's older two-family roofs.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
Attic Insulation in Carteret: Questions We Get
What does attic insulation involve in a typical Carteret two-family?
Most Carteret two-family attics still have whatever batts went in when the house was built for the borough's early industries, so the work usually starts with sealing the top plates and chases, adding baffle vents at the soffit, and then blowing in or laying fresh insulation over the floor. Where the old material is torn or fouled, it comes out first and the attic gets cleaned before anything new goes down.
What is a realistic timeline for attic insulation work in Carteret?
It depends on the attic. Topping up existing insulation in a straightforward two-family attic moves quickly, while removing old material, cleaning up after rodents, or working through the tighter attics common in Carteret's older housing takes longer. You will see the schedule for that specific attic spelled out in the written estimate itself, not left as a guess.
Are there incentives for attic insulation upgrades in Carteret?
Carteret is in PSE&G territory, and work like this has periodically qualified for support under the statewide NJ Clean Energy Program. Rather than quote a figure that might already be outdated, we will confirm exactly what applies to your attic when you book the free estimate.
Will new attic insulation stop ice dams on my Carteret roof?
Air sealing is the part that actually stops them. An ice dam starts with heat escaping through the attic floor, softening snow higher up on the roof even as the eave below stays frozen enough to turn that runoff back to ice. Closing the top-plate and duct-chase gaps that let that heat out, together with bringing the insulation up to today's standard, is what breaks the pattern. Insulation by itself will not.
How do you decide how much insulation a Carteret attic needs?
It comes down to the inspection. We check the depth and condition of what is already there, look for air leaks around the hatch, flue and wiring holes, and note any moisture or rodent activity. From that we recommend what brings the attic up to today's standard for this part of New Jersey, which varies from one Carteret house to the next depending on how it was built.
Is it ever okay to leave the old insulation and just add more on top?
Only when it needs to. If what is already up there is dry and has never had rodents in it, we can usually add fresh material directly over it. It comes out first when it is wet, compressed, or has had rodents nesting in it, something our crews find fairly often in the tightly built two-family stock scattered around Chrome and West Carteret before ever recommending a simple top-up.
What other Middlesex County towns do you reach from Carteret?
Coverage runs across all of Middlesex County starting right from Carteret, including the neighboring Woodbridge Township sections of Port Reading, Avenel and Sewaren. Linden sits just over the Rahway River in Union County, and Edison is part of that same regular attic and crawl space route as well.
Will you look at the crawl space while you are already inspecting the attic?
Often, yes. A poorly insulated attic and a damp, uninsulated crawl space are usually connected problems in a Carteret two-family, since air moves between the two more than most homeowners expect. We can inspect and quote both together, or handle the attic and crawl space as separate projects, whichever works better for your schedule.
