Master Attic did a phenomenal job with our attic insulation and duct replacement. We had a loss from smoke damage from a neighboring fire and we were met with compassion and excellent customer service from Danny Jones and Jorge Diaz. We chose them for their quality of work, expertise and fair pricing and they got the job done promptly. Thank you for the excellent work and we will be recommending you highly!

Removing Old Crawlspace Insulation in Edison
Insulation in an Edison crawl space does not fail all at once. It sags off the joists after years of humidity, gets soaked when a pipe leaks or the ground floods briefly, or ends up torn apart and nested in by mice or squirrels that found their way through a vent or foundation gap. Whatever the cause, once it has reached that point it does more harm sitting there than it does insulating.
We pull it out with equipment matched to the amount and condition of the material, working the joist bays clean and bagging what comes out for disposal. A split-level built with the crawl space squeezed under just one section of the house means crouching through tighter quarters than a colonial's full crawl space, which changes how the crew stages the job more than it changes the steps themselves.
Once the old material is out, the joists and rim joist get a look for damage or continued moisture before anything else is decided. Some Edison crawl spaces are ready for new insulation right away, others need sealing or encapsulation first because the same conditions that ruined the old material would just ruin the next batch. The estimate lays out which situation yours is in, in writing.

What We Find When We Remove Old Insulation in Edison
The four conditions behind most of the crawlspace insulation removal calls we get in Edison.
Middlesex County summers push humid air into an unsealed Edison crawl space, and over enough seasons that moisture is what makes batts sag off the joists and start to smell. By the time it is visibly hanging, it has stopped doing much insulating anyway.
A torn vent screen or a gap low on the foundation wall is all a mouse or squirrel needs to reach an Edison crawl space, and once inside they nest right in whatever insulation is there, tearing it apart and leaving droppings behind. That material has to come out regardless of how it looks from a distance.
Pulling insulation out of a narrow, low Metropark split-level crawl space takes noticeably longer than working in a colonial's roomier, walk-in one, and that difference is exactly why every quote starts with a look at the actual opening rather than a guess over the phone.
Sagging or missing insulation in an Edison crawl space leaves the floor above it exposed to Central Jersey winter air, so rooms over the crawl side of a split-level can feel noticeably colder than the rest of the house until it is replaced.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
Crawlspace Insulation Removal in Edison: Questions We Get
How can I tell my Edison crawl space needs the old insulation pulled?
A few giveaways stand out: batts that have come loose and are drooping into view, an odor drifting up into the rooms above, visible mold spots, or shredded material and droppings left by nesting rodents. Once any of those show up, the material is doing more harm than good. A technician confirms how far it has spread and what caused it during the walk-through.
How long does pulling out crawl space insulation take in an Edison house?
Crawl space size, how much material needs to come out, and how tight the access is all factor in. A split-level with the crawl space squeezed under one wing runs slower than a full crawl space under a colonial. That number gets confirmed for your specific job once we have been underneath and seen it.
Are there incentives that cover crawlspace insulation removal in Edison?
Removal on its own is less commonly what PSE&G or the New Jersey Clean Energy Program fund, compared with the new insulation that usually follows it. If your Edison project pairs removal with a fresh install, we will point out anything that applies to that part when we put the estimate together.
Is it safe for me to remove the old crawl space insulation myself?
It is not something we recommend, especially if rodents have been involved. Old insulation can carry droppings and, in a damp Edison crawl space, mold, and working in a tight crawl space without the right equipment is its own hazard. Professional removal also means the material gets bagged and disposed of properly instead of left in the yard.
How do you decide what caused my Edison crawl space insulation to fail?
The pattern of the damage tells most of the story. Sagging spread evenly across the whole crawl space usually points to humidity, while torn, shredded material concentrated in one spot points to rodents. A split-level near Metropark and a colonial with a full crawl space can both fail either way, which is why the inspection settles it before anything gets recommended.
Do you replace the insulation right after removing it?
Usually, yes, unless moisture or another underlying issue needs to be dealt with first. If a damp Edison crawl space caused the old insulation to fail, we recommend sealing or encapsulating before new material goes down, since otherwise the replacement would likely fail the same way again.
Do you handle crawlspace insulation removal outside Edison too?
Yes, anywhere in Middlesex County. Piscataway, Woodbridge and South Plainfield are the towns we are in most alongside Edison, and we cover Highland Park, New Brunswick and Metuchen just as regularly, including the parts of Metuchen that sit fully inside Edison's own borders.
Where does the old crawl space insulation go once it comes out of my Edison house?
It gets bagged right there in the crawl space and hauled off the property for disposal, never left in a pile in the yard or driveway. If rodents contaminated it, the crawl space gets a cleaning pass before anything else, so the next round of insulation is not going in beside whatever caused the last batch to fail.
