How We Clean Out a Brick Crawl Space or Basement
Debris, old insulation scraps that never got hauled away, and anything left behind by wildlife: a Brick crawl space or basement collects it a little at a time until a cleanup is the only real fix. Which one a property has depends largely on where it sits. On the lagoon streets around Baywood and Cherry Quay, a shallow crawl space is nearly always what is underfoot, since the ground there sits too close to tidal water for a dug basement to make sense. Basements show up more often further inland, on the higher ground around Herbertsville and Laurelton.
What triggers the call differs by location too. On the lagoon streets, storm surge and high tide can leave a crawl space holding wet debris and waterlogged insulation long after the weather clears; if there is still standing water sitting in it, that gets scoped as its own pump-and-dry visit before our cleanup crew comes in behind it. Further inland, it is more often wildlife, squirrels, raccoons or mice that have gotten underneath the floor and left droppings, nesting material and damaged insulation behind. Either way, the space gets cleared and sanitized before we recommend anything else for it.
What the crawl space or basement needs gets decided at the walk-through, not guessed at over the phone, and the quote that follows is always free and always in writing. It lays out what has to be hauled out, what condition the framing is in once the space is clear, and whether insulation or sealing should follow. One Brick property rarely needs exactly what the next one does.

What We Find in Brick Crawl Spaces & Basements
The four conditions behind most of the cleanup calls we get across Brick, NJ.
Nor'easters that push tide and rain up along Barnegat Bay leave crawl spaces near Baywood and Cherry Quay holding wet debris and waterlogged insulation well after the storm itself has passed, and we clear that out before it turns into a longer-term problem. If the storm also left standing water behind, pumping it and letting the space dry out comes ahead of our visit, not as part of it.
A raccoon or a family of mice denning under a Herbertsville or Lake Riviera property for a season leaves far more mess than most homeowners expect, droppings, torn insulation, sometimes chewed ductwork, and a cleanup crew is usually the ones who find the full extent of it.
Plenty of Brick crawl spaces and basements are still holding onto insulation scraps and material that failed long ago and simply never got hauled out, which makes the space harder to properly inspect until it is cleared.
A basement further inland gives us more room to work than a tight crawl space near the lagoons, which changes how a cleanup is staged and how long it takes to reach every corner of the space.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
Crawlspace & Basement Cleanup in Brick: Questions We Get
Why would a Brick property need a crawl space or basement cleanup?
Debris, failed insulation and anything wildlife has left behind build up over the years, especially in crawl spaces near the lagoons where storms push in water and debris, and in older mainland basements where squirrels or mice have found a way underneath. A cleanup clears all of it and sanitizes what is left.
How long does a crawl space or basement cleanup take in Brick?
It depends on how much has built up and why. A basement with light debris is a quick job. A lagoon-area crawl space carrying storm damage or heavy wildlife contamination needs more time to work through safely and completely, and we spell out that difference for your property in the estimate itself.
Are there New Jersey incentives connected to a crawl space cleanup?
Insulation installed after a cleanup can sometimes qualify for JCP&L or statewide Clean Energy Program support, since Brick sits within JCP&L's own territory. The cleanup itself typically does not qualify on its own. We will check what is currently offered and mention it during your estimate.
Is a musty smell or dark staining always a sign of a bigger problem?
A musty smell or dark staining usually points to moisture sitting somewhere it should not be, which is worth having looked at regardless of how minor it seems from upstairs. A cleanup clears out whatever is holding that moisture and gives us a clear look at the framing underneath before recommending what comes next.
How do you decide what a Brick crawl space or basement actually needs?
The inspection looks at what is on the floor, what condition the insulation is in, and whether there is any sign of wildlife or standing moisture. What comes back tells us whether a straightforward cleanup is enough or whether removal, sealing or new insulation should follow it.
Does new insulation or a vapor barrier follow a cleanup?
Often, yes, though it depends on what the cleanup uncovers. A crawl space near the water that has been holding tidal moisture usually needs sealing afterward. One further inland that just needed debris and old material cleared might only need fresh insulation, or nothing further at all.
Which towns near Brick do you handle crawl space and basement cleanups in?
Our crews cover the whole of Ocean County: Lakewood and Toms River to the west, Wall Township in the middle, and Mantoloking, Point Pleasant Beach and Point Pleasant along the coast. Storm-related dampness near the water and wildlife debris further inland both show up across this entire stretch of the Shore.
Do you clean basements the same way you clean crawl spaces?
The access and the amount of room to work differ, a basement usually gives us more space than a tight crawl space near the lagoons, but the approach is the same: clear out debris and failed material, sanitize what is left, and check the framing before recommending anything further.
