How We Remove Raccoons in Englewood
A raccoon in an Englewood attic almost always got there through the roofline, an aging soffit, a gap where a fascia board has pulled loose, or a chimney chase left uncapped. Finding that specific opening matters more than sealing quickly, because closing the wrong spot only buys a few days before the same animal, or a different one, tries the real gap again.
Crawl spaces are the other common path, usually through an old foundation vent, a warped crawl door, or a gap under loose skirting near grade. Before doing anything else, we confirm exactly which opening is being used and check for young ones that might still be inside, then use humane methods, one-way doors most often, so the raccoon leaves on its own terms and cannot get back in once it is gone.
After the raccoon is out, the entry point gets sealed, and whatever the animal left behind, nesting material, droppings, torn insulation, gets cleaned up and the space sanitized. The estimate is free and written, and covers the exclusion, the sealing and the cleanup together, since none of the three on its own solves an Englewood raccoon problem for long.

What We Find in Englewood Attics and Crawl Spaces
The four conditions behind most raccoon calls we get in Englewood.
Englewood's older wards carry enough tree canopy, especially near East Hill and Flat Rock Brook, that a raccoon can travel from branch to roofline without ever setting foot on the ground. An aging soffit or a loose fascia board is often the only thing standing between that canopy and the attic underneath it.
The entry point above is almost always at the roofline or soffit, where a raccoon can push through a gap most homeowners never look at. Below, it is a foundation vent, a warped crawl door or gapped skirting near grade. Treating both as the same problem misses half of what is actually happening at the house.
A raccoon denning in a crawl space often arrives already tracking in ground moisture, and a torn or pushed-aside vapor barrier stops doing its job the moment the animal starts using it as a path. What was a dry crawl space before can turn damp fast once wildlife has been moving through it.
Once a raccoon settles into an attic or under a crawl space floor, the insulation nearby gets pulled, packed down and turned into bedding rather than doing what it is supposed to do. By the time the noise gets loud enough to notice, the insulation underneath the den is usually a total loss.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
Raccoon Removal in Englewood: Questions We Get
How do I know if it's a raccoon in my Englewood attic and not something smaller?
Raccoons are heavier and louder than squirrels or mice, so the sounds tend to be a slow, deliberate shuffling rather than quick scratching, usually heard at night since raccoons are active after dark. Larger torn openings at the roofline, bigger droppings, and flattened trails through the insulation point toward a raccoon instead of something smaller working the same space.
Do you have to remove insulation when there has been a raccoon in the attic?
Not necessarily, but it is common. If the raccoon denned directly in the insulation, it usually comes out contaminated and matted beyond saving, and we remove and replace it. If the animal mostly stayed near the entry point and the rest of the attic is untouched, the insulation further away can sometimes stay in place after sanitizing.
Are there incentives that apply to raccoon removal work in Englewood?
Exclusion, sealing and cleanup are not the kind of work covered by state energy programs, though if the visit turns up insulation that needs replacing afterward, PSE&G and New Jersey's efficiency programs have picked up part of that separately in the past. Once we have actually looked at the attic, we will let you know what applies.
Will a raccoon come back to my Englewood attic after removal?
It will not, as long as the entry point actually gets closed. Raccoons return to places that fed or sheltered them before, so an opening left unsealed, even after the animal is gone, invites the same one or a different raccoon straight back in. Closing that gap while the crew is already on site is what keeps the problem from repeating.
What actually happens when your crew removes a raccoon from an attic or crawl space?
We start by finding the entry point and checking for young ones inside, since removing a mother before her litter is ready to move creates a bigger problem than leaving her alone briefly. From there we rely on humane methods, most often a one-way door that lets the raccoon leave under its own power while blocking its way back in.
How long does a raccoon removal take from start to finish in Englewood?
It depends on where the raccoon is denning and whether there are young ones present, since a mother will not leave through a one-way door without her litter. Some jobs resolve quickly once the entry point is confirmed, others take longer if we are waiting on young raccoons to be old enough to move. The written estimate covers what to expect for your specific situation.
What other Bergen County towns do you handle raccoon calls in?
Englewood Cliffs is the one town that actually shares a border with Englewood, while Cliffside Park sits further south along the same Palisades ridge rather than right next door. Tenafly, Teaneck, Leonia and Bergenfield round out the rest of our usual weekly route through this part of Bergen County. A raccoon call rarely sits long before a crew already working nearby can swing by.
Is it dangerous to have a raccoon in a crawl space under my house?
Raccoons can be defensive if they feel cornered, and their droppings carry real health risks, so getting too close on your own is not worth it. It is safer to keep pets and family away from the crawl space access and let a trained crew confirm what is down there and remove it using humane methods built for the job.
