Master Attic did a phenomenal job with our attic insulation and duct replacement. We had a loss from smoke damage from a neighboring fire and we were met with compassion and excellent customer service from Danny Jones and Jorge Diaz. We chose them for their quality of work, expertise and fair pricing and they got the job done promptly. Thank you for the excellent work and we will be recommending you highly!

Raccoon Removal in Ridgewood Attics and Crawl Spaces
Ridgewood's mature street trees, especially the tall canopy lining older blocks in the Heights and Old Country Club, give a raccoon an easy path onto the roof, and a century of settling has left plenty of soffits, ridge caps and slate eave edges on those houses loose enough to squeeze through. Once inside, a raccoon typically beds down in the attic insulation, and heavy nighttime movement overhead is usually the first thing a homeowner notices.
A Ridgewood crawl space raccoon problem usually starts somewhere different: not under the main house, which mostly sits on a full basement, but beneath an add-on room, often a sunporch or converted mudroom, framed with noticeably less care than the original structure and more likely to have a loose vent cover, a gap under the skirting, or a crawl door that does not seal tight. Raccoons shut out of the attic often shift their attention to that weaker opening instead, working at the vent cover or door until it gives.
The animal itself is handled without harm: a door fitted over the entry point allows it to exit on its own but not return, or a trapping approach is used when circumstances call for something more direct. With nothing left inside, we close the opening for good and clear out whatever insulation the animal damaged or fouled, attic or crawl space alike, before sanitizing the space. The estimate covering the whole job is free and written before work starts.

What Raccoon Damage Looks Like in Ridgewood
The four signs that come up most in the attics and crawl spaces we check in Ridgewood.
A raccoon settling into a Ridgewood attic tends to flatten and tear at the insulation nearest the entry point, usually near a soffit or ridge gap on an older roofline, leaving a bare patch that has to be replaced once the animal is gone.
The crawl space under a Ridgewood sunporch or mudroom addition tends to run damper than the main house's basement, and a raccoon looking for shelter is drawn to that same moisture and the looser vent covers those additions often have.
Tall, mature trees over older Ridgewood blocks like the Heights and Old Country Club give raccoons an easy climb up onto the roofline, where the soffits, ridge caps and slate eave edges on houses from that era have loosened enough over the decades for one to work its way through.
A raccoon needs a wider opening than a squirrel or mouse, so the gaps it uses, a torn soffit corner or a gap under crawl space skirting, tend to be larger and more obvious once you know to look for them, part of what the inspection checks.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
Raccoon Removal in Ridgewood: Questions We Get
How can I tell a raccoon has moved in rather than a squirrel?
Raccoons are bigger and heavier-sounding, thumping and rolling around rather than the light scratching squirrels make, and they tend to be active at night rather than dawn and dusk. A larger, coarser dropping pile in one place is another clue. Either way, the point of entry on an older Ridgewood roofline tends to be the same kind of loosened soffit or ridge seam, so the inspection settles which animal it actually is.
Does Master Attic use humane methods to get a raccoon out?
Yes, always. A door fitted over the entry point lets the raccoon exit on its own without being able to get back in, or a trapping approach is used when the situation calls for something more hands-on. Poison and bait play no part in how we work. Once the animal is confirmed gone, the opening is permanently closed.
What is the typical timeframe for raccoon removal at a Ridgewood property?
It varies with the approach the situation needs. Confirming a raccoon has left through an exit door on its own takes a few days before that opening can be sealed, while a more urgent case, a mother with young, calls for handling it differently from the start. The specific plan for your attic or crawl space comes with the written estimate.
Do you take raccoon removal calls from towns bordering Ridgewood?
We do, most often from Wyckoff, Ho-Ho-Kus and Waldwick to the north and west, and from Midland Park, Glen Rock and Paramus on the other sides of town, all inside our regular Bergen County range. If you are unsure whether your street counts, tell us when you call and we will confirm.
Do you handle raccoons in crawl spaces the same way as attics in Ridgewood?
The approach is similar but the location is different. Ridgewood crawl spaces almost always sit beneath an add-on room, a sunporch or mudroom rather than the main house, with their own entry points at foundation vents, crawl doors and skirting. We check both the roofline and anything below grade in a single inspection, so nothing gets missed.
Will the raccoon just come back after it is removed?
Only if the way in stays open, which is why closing it is built into the same job rather than scheduled for later. A raccoon that finds its old route blocked generally looks elsewhere instead of forcing its way back to the same spot, so we also check the rest of the roofline or crawl space for other weak points before we consider the job finished.
Do NJ incentive programs cover anything related to raccoon removal in Ridgewood?
The removal and sealing work itself sits outside those programs, but insulation replaced afterward sometimes qualifies for PSE&G or state efficiency incentive support, since Ridgewood falls in PSE&G's service area. Program specifics change over time, so the free estimate is when we can tell you exactly what applies to your attic or crawl space.
Can a raccoon in the attic damage the wiring in an older Ridgewood house?
It can. Raccoons chew on whatever is in their way while nesting, and in a house old enough to still have knob-and-tube runs alongside newer wiring, that is a real risk worth having checked once the animal is removed. It is not electrical repair work we perform ourselves, but we flag anything that looks compromised during the cleanup.
