Master Attic did a phenomenal job with our attic insulation and duct replacement. We had a loss from smoke damage from a neighboring fire and we were met with compassion and excellent customer service from Danny Jones and Jorge Diaz. We chose them for their quality of work, expertise and fair pricing and they got the job done promptly. Thank you for the excellent work and we will be recommending you highly!

How Master Attic Encapsulates a Bergenfield Crawl Space
A vapor barrier changes what a crawl space is exposed to. Once the ground and the foundation walls are covered and every vent and gap is closed, the humid outside air that used to move freely underneath a house has nowhere left to go. That shift matters more in Bergenfield than it does in a lot of towns, since the borough's water table climbs close to the surface near Cooper's Pond and along the streets that dip toward the Hackensack River, reaching straight into a vented crawl space for most of the year.
Not every part of a Bergenfield property needs this treatment, which is where the borough's building pattern comes in. The original cape or colonial usually sits on a full basement, while a later addition often rests on its own shallow crawl space built with vents. Those addition crawl spaces are almost always the ones collecting moisture and losing insulation, and they are what we target first. Covering the ground, running the liner up the walls, and sealing the vents and doors happens there, and where old insulation has already gone soft or waterlogged, it gets pulled before the barrier goes down over it.
What you receive afterward is a written number that names the specific work: how much old material needs to come out first, how far the barrier extends, and whether fresh insulation goes in at the same time. No two Bergenfield crawl spaces need quite the same combination, which only becomes clear once someone has actually been underneath to look.

What We Find in Bergenfield Crawl Spaces
The reasons a Bergenfield crawl space ends up sealed with a full vapor barrier.
Cooper's Pond sits low, and so does the ground running toward the Hackensack River, which keeps groundwater close to the surface across a wide stretch of Bergenfield. A crawl space built with open vents pulls that dampness in year round, especially the shallow ones tucked under additions rather than the main basement.
The borough grew fast through the 1920s, 1930s and into the postwar years, and additions kept getting tacked onto capes and colonials well after that. Most of those additions sit on their own crawl space, vented the way builders did it at the time, separate from whatever basement the original house has.
A damp, vented crawl space is shelter as far as a mouse is concerned, and once it is living in loose insulation under a Bergenfield addition, whatever it leaves behind has to be dealt with before a vapor barrier can go down over a clean floor.
The entry point into an addition's crawl space is often narrower than the door into the main basement, and that changes how material gets carried in and how long it takes to run a barrier into every corner without leaving a gap unsealed.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
Crawl Space Encapsulation in Bergenfield: Questions We Get
What actually happens when Master Attic encapsulates a Bergenfield crawl space?
A heavy liner goes down across the ground and climbs the foundation walls, and every vent, gap and door gets closed off so outdoor air has no way back in. Most often that means working under an addition rather than the main house, since the later add-ons stitched onto Bergenfield's older capes and colonials are usually the part still sitting on an open, vented crawl space.
How much time should I expect a crawl space encapsulation job to take?
A dry, already-clear crawl space goes fast once the liner starts going down. Pull old insulation out first, deal with a rim joist that needs real attention, or work through the tighter opening some additions have, and it stretches longer. You get a real number before the crew shows up, based on what was actually found underneath.
Does encapsulation in Bergenfield qualify for any New Jersey energy program?
PSE&G serves the borough, and the NJ Clean Energy Program periodically covers insulation and air-sealing work that overlaps with encapsulation. Exactly what counts changes as the program updates its guidelines, so it is worth bringing up when the estimate gets written rather than guessing beforehand.
My house has a full basement. Does the crawl space under my addition still need this?
Very often, yes, and it usually needs it more than the basement does. A basement built with the original house tends to already be dry and somewhat conditioned, while the crawl space under a later addition was framed to a different, vented standard and rarely gets a second look.
How do you know a Bergenfield crawl space is a candidate for the full treatment?
Three things get checked: how much groundwater is nearby, whether the vents are still doing their job, and what shape the existing insulation is in. A crawl space that is already dry with intact insulation might only need a few points sealed. One that has taken on water from Cooper's Pond or the Hackensack River side of town, or has batts sagging off the joists, is a clearer case for the complete barrier.
Is it necessary to remove old insulation before the barrier goes in?
If it is wet, sagging or contaminated, yes, since sealing a liner over damaged insulation only locks the moisture problem in place instead of fixing it. Material that has stayed dry and intact can often be left in place, but that call gets made during the walk-through. Standing water after a heavy rain is treated as its own separate step, not something encapsulation handles directly; it gets pumped out or given time to dry before any barrier work begins.
What other Bergen County towns border Bergenfield for crawl space work?
Cresskill, Tenafly, Teaneck, Dumont, New Milford and Englewood all touch Bergenfield's borders directly, and our crews are through each of them regularly, along with the rest of Bergen County. The same vented, addition-built crawl space shows up again and again once you cross into any of them.
Does the vapor barrier in a Bergenfield crawl space ever need to be replaced?
Not on any kind of set timeline. It is heavy-duty material built to sit down there for years without breaking down, so this is not something added to a maintenance calendar. If a later visit for another service brings us back underneath the house, checking the liner, the vent covers and the crawl door seal for anything torn or shifted is part of that walk-through.
