Master Attic did a phenomenal job with our attic insulation and duct replacement. We had a loss from smoke damage from a neighboring fire and we were met with compassion and excellent customer service from Danny Jones and Jorge Diaz. Clearing Failed Insulation Out of a Yardley Crawl Space
Insulation in a crawl space works quietly for years until moisture, age or an animal gets into it, and by the time anyone notices, what is hanging from the joists is doing more harm than good. In the Yardley Historic District, original batts from decades ago are often brittle, discolored and pulling loose from fieldstone foundation walls that were never dry to begin with. In Lower Makefield, insulation from the original 1960s through 1990s construction is simply reaching the end of its usable life at the same time squirrels or mice have been getting into it.
Removal starts with figuring out why the insulation failed, since wet material, rodent contamination and simple age each call for slightly different handling and protective gear. Our crew clears the joist bays and the rim joist band by hand or with vacuum equipment, bags what comes out, and disposes of it properly rather than leaving it piled at the curb. Anything the removal uncovers, an open vent, a gap at the sill plate, a spot where the vapor barrier failed, gets flagged before new insulation goes anywhere near it.
What happens next hinges on the condition of the crawl space once every scrap of the old material is gone. Some Yardley crawl spaces just need fresh insulation put in while the crew is already there, while others need a vapor barrier or sealing work first. The estimate itself costs nothing, comes in writing, and lays out the removal, the condition underneath, and what we recommend from there.

What We Find in Yardley Crawl Spaces
The four conditions that bring us out on a Yardley insulation removal call most often.
Insulation installed when a Lower Makefield house was first built decades ago is simply reaching the point where fiberglass thins and settles no matter how well it was originally put in. By the time it is failing this way, it usually needs full replacement rather than a partial top-up.
A fieldstone or brick foundation in the historic district holds ground moisture against the crawl space walls year round, and insulation touching that dampness breaks down far faster than insulation in a drier Lower Makefield crawl space on poured block. Discoloration and a musty smell are usually the first signs.
Squirrels and mice that find their way into a crawl space through a vent or sill gap treat the existing insulation as ready-made bedding, pulling it apart and soiling whatever they nest in. What we pull out afterward is rarely worth trying to salvage or clean.
That gap along the mudsill gets skipped often enough during an original installation, and once it sits uncovered it lets in enough outside temperature and moisture to damage whatever insulation is closest to it first. It is usually where a removal job starts.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
Crawlspace Insulation Removal in Yardley: Questions We Get
What does crawl space insulation removal involve in a typical Yardley crawl space?
We take out whatever has failed, whether that is decades-old original material from the historic district or moisture and rodent-damaged batts from a Lower Makefield crawl space, using protective gear and vacuum equipment where the space allows it. Everything comes out bagged for disposal, handled the right way rather than left piled at the curb, and the space is left clean for whatever goes in next.
How long does a crawl space insulation removal job take in Yardley?
The amount of material, how contaminated or wet it is, and how easy the crawl space is to navigate all factor into it. A small, accessible section clears quickly, while a full historic district crawl space with heavy rodent damage takes longer to handle safely. We put the specific schedule in the written estimate.
What causes crawl space insulation to fail faster near the Delaware River than elsewhere in Bucks County?
The ground stays damp closer to the river and the canal for more of the year, and older fieldstone foundations in that part of Yardley were not built with any moisture barrier at all. Insulation touching that kind of dampness breaks down years before the same material would in a drier crawl space further from the water.
Does deteriorating crawl space insulation actually need to come out right away?
It depends on what is wrong with it. Material that has simply aged but is still dry, intact and free of rodent activity is not an emergency. Once it is wet, moldy, torn apart or clearly contaminated, leaving it in place keeps feeding the same moisture and air quality problems into the floor above it, which is when removal stops being optional.
How can you tell if insulation needs to come out completely rather than just get supplemented?
We look at how the material feels and smells, whether it has visible mold, whether rodents have been nesting in it, and how much of it has actually fallen away from the joist bays. Insulation that is simply thin but otherwise dry and free of contamination can sometimes stay in place and be topped up, but anything showing moisture damage, mold or nesting always comes out.
Does the crawl space need anything else done before new insulation goes back in?
Often, yes. If moisture is what damaged the old insulation, we usually recommend addressing the ground and walls with a sealed liner before new material goes in, otherwise the same failure just repeats. If rodents were involved, sealing the entry point matters just as much as the removal itself.
What other Bucks County towns get crawl space insulation removal calls from your crew?
Middletown Township, Washington Crossing and Langhorne come up regularly, along with Newtown, Morrisville and Bensalem across the rest of eastern Pennsylvania. Removal work happens throughout this part of Bucks County on a routine basis, not as a special trip.
Do you remove insulation from crawl spaces that also have a dirt floor?
Yes, a dirt or gravel floor does not change the removal process itself, though it usually means the ground moisture problem that damaged the insulation in the first place is still there once the old material is out. We flag that during the estimate so it can be addressed while we are already on site if you want.
