Master Attic did a phenomenal job with our attic insulation and duct replacement. We had a loss from smoke damage from a neighboring fire and we were met with compassion and excellent customer service from Danny Jones and Jorge Diaz. We chose them for their quality of work, expertise and fair pricing and they got the job done promptly. Thank you for the excellent work and we will be recommending you highly!

How We Insulate an Attic in Lodi
Most attic insulation calls in Lodi lead to the same kind of space, a kneewall half-story shared by both halves of a two-family house, the layout the borough's 1940s and 50s building boom left behind. We climb through the hatch, gauge what insulation is already up there, check the party wall and kneewall framing for gaps, and note how the roof vents before writing up a recommendation. A house finished within the last year gets walked through the same way; only what we find changes, never how closely we look.
The air-leak work happens before any insulation gets added: the top plate along the party wall, the chases where plumbing and wiring pass through, and the seam around the attic hatch, a detail a two-family layout tends to double up on. Dry batts that are simply thin get a layer of fresh material blown over them, with baffles set at the rafter tails so the soffit vents keep pulling air past the roof deck. Batts that are wet, matted down, or carry rodent contamination get pulled out and the attic cleared before anything replaces them.
What you get back is a free, written breakdown of exactly what we found up in your attic, what we think it needs, and why. For a two-family house, that breakdown usually treats the shared attic and any kneewall pockets as one job, since a half-story attic's access and airflow call for different handling than a wide-open colonial attic would need.
What We Install in Lodi Attics
Six ways Master Attic brings a Lodi attic current, each one starting from the same free walk-through inspection.
What We Find in Lodi Attics
The four conditions that drive most of the attic insulation work Master Attic does in Lodi's two-family houses.
A large share of Lodi's two-family attics never got past the depth installed at construction, decades ago for most of the borough's duplex stock and more recently for the rest, and today's guidance calls for meaningfully more than what is currently up there.
Second-floor units in Lodi often sit under a flat or barely pitched roof section, and that shape holds snowmelt against the surface far longer than a steep roof sheds it. Heat escaping through a thin, unsealed attic floor below feeds the freeze-thaw pattern that builds ice at the eave.
Insulation crews in Lodi regularly find a section of batts flattened and soiled where mice or squirrels nested at some point, usually near the kneewall where a shared two-family attic offers the easiest crossing point between units. That pocket gets pulled and replaced rather than blown over.
A kneewall attic runs low and angled rather than open like a full colonial attic, so blowing insulation evenly into the sloped pockets behind each kneewall takes different equipment staging than an open floor does. We walk every Lodi attic before quoting it for exactly that reason.

We just had our attic insulation replaced, and the entire experience was pleasant from start to finish. Robert is knowledgeable, honest and easy to work with at the initial estimate period. Roberta and his crew did a great job replacing the attic insulation for our house. They were very professional, efficient and respectful. They did everything that needed to be done and left the space clean and in excellent condition. I am very happy that I chose Master Attic and would highly recommend them.
Dan Jones and the Ronald crew did a great job from start to finish! I had original insulation in my attic with no electricity, not an easy job. Our upstairs was very hot in the summer and cold in winter. With having central air, we still needed AC units and space heaters to manage. Dan set up a great plan to eliminate that. He and his crew were able to come and finish the job shortly after we first met. They were quick, clean and managed to crawl into small spaces to remove old insulation and install fresh insulation. We have already noticed a major difference! Highly recommended!!
We hired Master Attic to clean out debris, mice, old insulation, and replace with new insulation in both our attic spaces. Roberto and his crew did a phenomenal job. They were extremely professional, polite, and did a fantastic job. They invited my husband to see the attic after each step, and took pictures on their phone to show me since I could not get up in the attic. They took the time to protect the space with plastic sheeting before the job up in the attic, and then cleaned up everything perfectly afterwards. I highly recommend them!
Great job by the team. Cleaned out the entire attic and replaced all the old insulation with new fresh insulation. Made a huge difference. Alex was great to work with and was very professional. Would highly recommend.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Rob provided a great assessment and capabilities overview, arrived on time and was very generous and thorough in explaining the work. I signed on the spot. A crew of six arrived (again, on time) and completely transformed our attic space - thoroughly cleaned out the old insulation (looked spotless afterwards), sanitized the space, sealed it/rodent proofed it, added baffles and of course, replaced the insulation and added more in areas that needed it. Completed the whole job in half a day and we are delighted with the result. Thank you, Master Attic team, for a job very well done! Highest recommendation.
What a great experience I had with this company and its employees. It started with initially interacting with Joe who came out for the estimate. He was funny because he came down from my attic and said "have you seen up there". I laughed because I had and I knew it was bad. He was no pressure and no nonsense. Gave me an estimate and said if I wanted we could have the work done next day. I wasn't ready for that but after some schedule juggling I told him we could be ready. Joe had his guys out next morning with the best part being Jorge calling me to advise he was about thirty minutes out. I appreciate when I am given a heads up as to ETA. Three of them arrived Jorge set out plastic and covered exposed furniture. Jorge, Angel and Gonzalo were all polite and worked hard to complete the task. They worked efficiently and were done quickly. Jorge made sure he included me in each step of the process and when I saw the finished product I was amazed. I can actually use my attic for storage if I choose to do so. I did not realize when they were here that they also do work on crawlspace areas. I will be calling them back to see what they can do for my crawlspace which easily rivals the diasaster called my attic. I recommend at least giving this company and its employees an opportunity to help you.
Great company to work with. From beginning to end, Dan came out, spent plenty of time with me going over everything that needed to be done, and the process of everything that needed to be updated it both attics. His professionalism was top notch, answered all my question and concerns. When it came time for George and his six-man crew to do the work their quality of workmanship was well above average, they were here the whole day, and I don't think they even had a lunch break (hopefully I don't get him in trouble). They all worked and everyone knew what their job was, they removed all the insulation, cleaned, spray foamed all holes and top plates, re-insulated both attics and cleaned up like they weren't even here. Will definitely use them again.
Master Attic remediated a bat issue for us back in October and I can’t say enough about what a wonderful job they did. The work was guaranteed and they encouraged us to call if we say any further evidence of bats. Well, there were a few droppings in the attic and they quickly responded to our concerns. Jose’s crew came out on a SUNDAY, inspected the attic, and sealed up several spots that could be entry points. They were professional, efficient, and kind. I would highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed.
Attic Insulation in Lodi: Questions We Get
What does attic insulation work usually involve in a Lodi two-family house?
Most jobs start in a shared attic under a kneewall half-story, the layout behind the bulk of Lodi's 1940s and 50s two-family stock. We check what insulation is already there, seal air leaks at the party wall and hatch, add baffles wherever the soffit vents need to stay clear, then close the gap between what is up there now and where a well-insulated attic floor needs to sit.
Can old insulation be topped off instead of pulled out entirely?
Often, yes. Dry insulation that has never had rodents in it can usually be topped with fresh blown-in material and left where it sits. We pull it out first when moisture, compression, or a rodent history is part of the picture, a combination our crews run into regularly across Lodi's older two-family stock.
Does Master Attic know about current rebates for a Lodi two-family attic?
PSE&G territory covers Lodi, and utility-backed insulation rebates through New Jersey's statewide clean energy programs have come and gone over the years. A two-family house often needs a larger volume of material than a single-family home of similar footprint, so bring that up when we walk your attic and we will tell you what applies right now.
Does insulating a shared two-family attic in Lodi involve more work than a single unit?
Usually the whole shared attic gets inspected and quoted together, since insulation and air sealing on one side affects how the other side performs. Where the two units are separately owned, we can scope each side individually, but coordinating a single visit through whichever unit's hatch is accessible keeps the job efficient for everyone involved.
How do you decide between blown-in insulation and batts for my attic?
The inspection settles it more than any general rule. An open attic floor usually takes blown-in material well since it fills every irregular gap without seams. Kneewall sections, sloped ceilings and tight framed bays, common throughout Lodi's two-family houses, often need batts instead because loose fill will not sit still on an angle. Plenty of Lodi attics end up using both, and the estimate spells out where each goes.
What factors affect the timeline for an attic insulation job in Lodi?
Mostly the condition of what is already up there. Topping off dry, existing insulation moves along quickly, while pulling out contaminated material first or working through a tight kneewall section with low headroom adds time. Coordinating a shared two-family attic, where the hatch usually opens from just one unit, is another factor. Whatever the mix, the schedule for your attic gets written into the estimate.
Which Bergen County towns near Lodi does Master Attic serve?
Hackensack, Garfield, Saddle Brook, Rochelle Park and Maywood all border Lodi directly, and our crews handle this same insulation work in every one of them week in and week out. Coverage stretches further to Paramus and across the wider Bergen and Passaic County service area, covering the same range of work described here.
Does the flood-prone ground along the Saddle River affect attic insulation work?
Not directly. Flooding along the Saddle River affects basements and ground-level spaces far more than an attic under the roof. Where it matters for insulation is humidity: a persistently damp lower level can push moist air up through an unsealed rim joist and attic floor, which is one more reason air sealing comes before insulation goes down in Lodi's older two-family houses.
